Monday update

Finally! A better appointment today, Dr. Hutton said that West still sounds really "junky", British word for a lot of crud in his chest, but that he is moving air well. She talked about how she was so worried about him and how if I had been a first time mom or had no experience in wheezing issues ( Thomas has had loads of breathing treatments..) that she would have admitted him..( Glad she had so much confidence in me bc I was scared to death!) I asked her if he was out of the woods and she said not yet, it will be a couple of weeks until he is out of the woods, viruses have a long life.. I ask her about that spot on his lungs and she said it was just part of the virus and should resolve on its own. We are staying on the breathing and saline treatments and we go back on Thursday to be rechecked:) Over all great appointment! I should add that my tiny baby is weighing in at 9 pounds 3 ounces!!! Thank you all for your prayers, I will def update on Thursday after his appointment, looks like we are heading in the right direction:)

Wild night

Last night about 1:00 am both boys woke up and wanted nothing to do with daddy, just mommy, so here I am rocking West and Thomas flipping out bc he wanted me to hold and rock him to, so we did:)

Prayer for our friend Julie...please read

For those of you who already know and those who may not, we need urgent prayer for David and I’s 14 year old god-daughter, Hannah Hayler! She was shopping yesterday afternoon when she collapsed in Old Navy with a brain hemorrhage. She had surgery last night to remove the front part of her skull to relieve the enormous amount of pressure that had caused her to have several strokes and lose blood flow throughout her brain. She is fighting for her life, and she needs prayer warriors behind this, standing watch every hour. At this point medically, they have exhausted everything they have. We have a great King who is sovereign and has been known to do bigger things. Please join David, Hannah and I in believing God to do “more than we could ask or imagine” (Ephesians 3:20)!

Thank you for helping us stand in this gap to cover this family! Specific prayers at this point are :

Swelling to drastically decrease in her brain/
Heart to continue to sustain
Complete and total healing of any damage that has been done to her brain
Medications for swelling would take immediate and full effect in her body
Reconciliation of a broken marriage (Hannah’s mom and dad are currently separated)
For unsaved friends and family members to be brought to the Lord
Hannah’s friends, siblings, and the little ones that Hannah babysits for and wisdom for their parents in how to discuss this loss with them and protection of their spirits and faith
A total miracle for this precious child of God!

Thanks and we will keep you posted on her condition. She is at MUSC on the 8th floor –PICU. Her name is Hannah Hayler. Mom is Julie, Dad-Andrew, brother-Avery (10), and little sister Kathleen (4).

No English but I knew her pain...

I wanted to write about a family that I watched while we were waiting to be seen on Friday night at the MUSC er- This family was Hispanic, there was the mom, the dad and a little boy who appeared to be about 5 maybe? They had been waiting a long time, poor little thing was just crying and crying, holding his ear..Even in Spanish, you can understand when someone is in pain, the moan and the cry is just the same. This little boy bc it probably was an ear infection kept getting pushed back bc other children were more critical than he ( Even though he did get sent back before West..). What moved me so much was that his mom and dad were holding him with such concern on their faces and his sweet mother just had tears streaming down her face, she was crying more than he was. Its hard to explain until you are a mother how watching your children in pain makes you hurt just as much as they do.. I never will forget watching her "mother" her child, holding him, loving him, just praying that someone would make the pain stop for him..We kept making eye contact and even though we did not speak the same language we connected on so many levels... I never will forget watching her..

Sunday update

They want West to be seen everyday until he turns the corner so we went into Peds Plus today at St. Francis, I highly recommend them as the care that we got was great!
Dr. Ward saw West and said that he sounded pretty good and that we were doing really well with him, to be sure he did order a chest xray. The xray came back that he has a spot on his right lung called a , "Atelectasis". From what I understand this is a part of his lung that has trapped some air and makes it hard to move air through there, hence the wheezing. Not dangerous unless he gets sicker which could indicate that the aveloi around there may be collapsing? Over all he said keep doing what we are doing and head in to see Dr. Hutton in the am- West was great, just slept and nursed the whole time, was a bit sad with the xray but can't blame him for that. I can't say again how thankful I am for all of you who are praying for West! We'll update tomorrow, his appointment is at 9am- Have a great ( Windy...) Sunday:) Brittan

Saturday update..

After a wild night of popping in the ER and not being seen for over 2 hours with a 4 week old in distress I thought I could manage just as well and be safer from the germs at home. When I told them I was going to go ahead home they did send someone out to listen to him and said yes, he def has bronchioltis but at that moment he was mild and that I "should" be safe to take him home. We came home and went back to see Sam this am at the Dr's office, he is such a kind man. He was so upset that West was not seen right away, #1 being 4 weeks old, #2 being in respiratory distress that he said he would personally call. He said West was still retracting and wheezing but that he was holding steady. PRAISE THE LORD! He said to take him into peds plus tomorrow am to be listened to and then come back to them on Monday am at 9. He said in a couple of days he had his fingers crossed that West would turn the corner. He is sleeping right now on the couch next to me after his breathing treatment at 10:30. This whole ordeal has been so interesting. My biggest fear when I had West was that he would get sick, being a winter baby...also I was concerned that with the recent word of a family who lost their 7 week old to a virus at our church. I struggle with knowing that God is in control, that he is always sovereign and that all things work for good. I am praising him bc my sweet little West seems to be getting ready to turn the corner but what if he wasn't, is my faith strong enough to still praise him, is yours? I really want this to be a lesson for me in knowing that West is not mine and Tommy's baby but he is Gods, and God is in control, and God has West in his loving arms. Thank you Jesus for healing West..Thank you all for your prayers, they mean so much!
